Para los que no conozcan a Huntington : The Hispanic challenge


El difunto HUNTINGTON no era uno más de tantos racistas que hay por el mundo.

Era un célebre académico, catedrático en Harvard y presidente de la Academia de Estudios Internacionales.

En los años noventa del siglo pasado se hizo famoso por su Choque de civilizaciones.

En el 2004 vaticinó en un artículo publicado en Foreign Policy un "choque de civilizaciones" en el interior de Estados Unidos.

Según él crecimiento de la población "latina" --y, sobre todo, de la mexicana-- amenaza la “base anglo-protestante” de la cultura estadounidense:

El influjo persistente de inmigrantes hispanos amenaza con dividir Estados Unidos en dos pueblos, dos culturas y dos idiomas. Al contrario de los grupos de inmigrantes del pasado, los mexicanos y otros latinos no se han asimilado a la cultura estadounidense, sino que han creado sus propios enclaves políticos y lingüísticos --de Miami a Los Angeles-- rechazando los valores anglo-protestantes que construyeron el sueño americano. Peligra Estados Unidos si ignora este desafío.

Citando selectivamente a un puñado de autores --de Jorge Castañeda a Robert Kaplan-- dice que los hispanos carecen de compromiso con el trabajo y la educación; que les falta iniciativa, autosuficiencia y ambición; que desconfían de cualquier persona ajena a la familia; y que no comparten con los anglo-protestantes el valor de la puntualidad, la capacidad de realizar resultados con celeridad y la orientación hacia al futuro ...

Estos argumentos los desarrolló en su libro Who We Are (Quiénes somos), publicado el mismo año 2004.

(1) Algunos ejemplares del Corán estaban siendo utilizados para transmitir información entre los presos en una cárcel de Afganistán.

(2) Estos ejemplares del Corán fueron interceptados y se decidió su destrucción.

(3) En vez de manejar adecuadamente la destrucción, algunos jóvenes soldados decidieron quemarlos.

(4) Trabajadores afganos lo vieron y "rescataron" los ejemplares que pudieron.

(5) Lo contaron . . .

(6) Funcionarios de Estados Unidos se disculpan.

(7) Se inician los disturbios.
